Hello to my three favorite followers! and Happy happy new years! SO I wrote this whole long post about my experiences last year and the reasons that led me to discontinue blogging. Yes that’s right you read correctly, I decided to stop blogging and there are various reasons for my decision but it has been one of the best decisions of my life. I went into excruciating detail in my previously written post which was scheduled to be posted in Jan of 2014 but those reasons are actually for myself and for no one else. I know some people will be upset about this but I really could not care, my life has changed drastically and I started having one for the first time in 8 years (since I started blogging) and it felt great to be a little bit normal for a change.
So there isn’t much about 2013 in this post at all, that is ok, it was a very tough year and I made it, better and stronger and ready for new challenges. One of them is to work more abroad and travel more. I just got caught up so much in this rat race of being the popular kid on the web and having more traffic than other sites that I didn’t realize how much I was missing out on in just living. Getting back to the roots and the essence of being, none of this internet mogul crap. Plus it was literally driving me insane and causing all sorts of problems!
In short, what most people don’t realize is the massive amount of time and effort that goes into blogging regularly, especially with pictures. Just going through thousands of images from say a wedding and selecting 80 photos to be blogged can easily take 4 days or more. If you blog around 10 posts a year you are spending almost an entire month just blogging, then comes the worry at night as to why you blog is not getting featured or why it is not on google’s first page in search queries. It almost became a strange obsession/addiction. Google analytics, Search engine optimization, page views, web traffic stats etc.
Above is a great moment between father and daughter, Regardt van de Bergh and Lika Berning, shot them for Finesse magazine. Below is another portrait I did on the side while shooting a story for Finesse, this time of the amazing Martelize Brink, paralyzed from the waist down, she is a popular radio DJ on RSG. If you meet her you will quickly realize that you are one that is actually paralyzed. She has such a zest a strong love for life and people that leaves you feeling helpless 🙂
So I stopped and decided to rather have a life, get out of the office and enjoy nature. As a result, I started exercising a lot more, I play golf again and I am at my healthiest and fittest I have been in over 10 years. I actually look 10 years younger, people don’t believe me when they find out how old I am.
So I have just added a few quick pics and you will see that they don’t even all match up in length as I couldn’t be bothered by it.
So unfortunately you won’t be seeing a lot of me on here anymore and I am fine with that, I still get booked regularly, my work is still going strong and I have many happy clients and I am shooting better work than ever, so that makes me happy. Oh, I also started acting again on the side and this from a commercial I did in 2012. Enjoy it 🙂
