Finally I can slowly start to post some of my weddings from the past season, it was a quiet season wedding wise but still busy enough. Congrats to Laraine and Rob! Hard to believe it was so terribly windy that day, I think one of the tables at the reception blew away?! Enjoy!

They got hitched in the Riebeek Kasteel area, awesome place, go visit!

Please don’t be shy and leave a comment if you liked it!

Heline Bekker - Aaah Eric, these are SHAMAZING!!!!

Hello to my three favorite followers! and Happy happy new years! SO I wrote this whole long post about my experiences last year and the reasons that led me to discontinue blogging. Yes that’s right you read correctly, I decided to stop blogging and there are various reasons for my decision but it has been one of the best decisions of my life.ย  I went into excruciating detail in my previously written post which was scheduled to be posted in Jan of 2014 but those reasons are actually for myself and for no one else. I know some people will be upset about this but I really could not care, my life has changed drastically and I started having one for the first time in 8 years (since I started blogging) and it felt great to be a little bit normal for a change.

So there isn’t much about 2013 in this post at all, that is ok, it was a very tough year and I made it, better and stronger and ready for new challenges. One of them is to work more abroad and travel more. I just got caught up so much in this rat race of being the popular kid on the web and having more traffic than other sites that I didn’t realize how much I was missing out on in just living. Getting back to the roots and the essence of being, none of this internet mogul crap. Plus it was literally driving me insane and causing all sorts of problems!

In short, what most people don’t realize is the massive amount of time and effort that goes into blogging regularly, especially with pictures. Just going through thousands of images from say a wedding and selecting 80 photos to be blogged can easily take 4 days or more. If you blog around 10 posts a year you are spending almost an entire month just blogging, then comes the worry at night as to why you blog is not getting featured or why it is not on google’s first page in search queries. It almost became a strange obsession/addiction. Google analytics, Search engine optimization, page views, web traffic stats etc.

sm_EPU_0901Above is a great moment between father and daughter, Regardt van de Bergh and Lika Berning, shot them for Finesse magazine. Below is another portrait I did on the side while shooting a story for Finesse, this time of the amazing Martelize Brink, paralyzed from the waist down, she is a popular radio DJ on RSG. If you meet her you will quickly realize that you are one that is actually paralyzed. She has such a zest a strong love for life and people that leaves you feeling helpless ๐Ÿ™‚

So I stopped and decided to rather have a life, get out of the office and enjoy nature. As a result, I started exercising a lot more, I play golf again and I am at my healthiest and fittest I have been in over 10 years. I actually look 10 years younger, people don’t believe me when they find out how old I am.

So I have just added a few quick pics and you will see that they don’t even all match up in length as I couldn’t be bothered by it.

So unfortunately you won’t be seeing a lot of me on here anymore and I am fine with that, I still get booked regularly, my work is still going strong and I have many happy clients and I am shooting better work than ever, so that makes me happy. Oh, I also started acting again on the side and this from a commercial I did in 2012. Enjoy it ๐Ÿ™‚

Eric - Yeah thanks, it came by accident but turned into the best thing ever, I feel so much happier and have time to do my own things again, its great!

  • February 5, 2014 - 20:34

    Christilene - Absoluut mooi! XC

  • February 5, 2014 - 13:32

Tim Wecke - great post Eric. couldn’t agree more… everything u speak about are the same reasons ive avoided or delayed getting into blogging… live life man and enjoy the absence…

Everyone is jumping for joy in anticipation of their photos! My little (as in a week) December break and some sabotage on the part from Eskom has left me a ittle bit behind on my delivery, but never fear, I am working relentlessly to get everything up to date. In the mean time keep jumping! (QUICK TIP: jumping up and down for at least 10 times can kick start your metabolism and give you a spurt of energy whenever you need it.)

I photographed their wedding just over two years ago. They are such a beautiful couple and they have a new addition to their family! Congrats guys!!

Thanks to Robyn Knowles for the makeup! More images after the jump..

liezl - hierdie fotos is prysloos! so ‘n pragtige gesin en kosbaarste geskenkie, die kleinding. Ongelooflike werk, Eric!

Thinking back to the times before photography was born, when masters like Van Gogh had to sit, watch and observe to get their work onto canvas. Now we press a button but there is still magic in doing a long exposure photo, it feels more real, like you are creating it.. Really wish I had my tripod with me that night..

I secretly shot a video of their wedding, just to play around with editing and the Canon 550D’s video quality/functions. View it on vimeo.com for slightly better quality.

Eric - Thanks! Yes I have experience with video but none that includes hand holding without an image stabilizer, shooting with an 85 and 160mm lens angle of view is tricky. It sure is a great camera for the price!

  • December 20, 2010 - 13:05

Pearl Hair Slides - Have you got previous experience with recording video or has it mostly been photography in the past? A great video by the way considering you were just playing around!

The 550D seems pretty popular. It’s almost always the video camera I hear being used when I see recordings online.

The lovely couple had their entire wedding party at the Lagoon Beach Hotel overlooking Table Mountain and Cape Town. It was a wind chilled day but nothing went wrong and everyone had a blast!

Eric - Thanks Lauren and thank you Emil for that insightful comment, that is exactly what I was going for! 10/10 ๐Ÿ™‚

  • November 25, 2010 - 18:53

Emil - Eric, I really like your work! Apart from lovely light, intelligent use of depth of field, colour relevant to the shot, as far as I’m concerned, you’ve also captured the mood, the visceral feeling of the shot beautifully. You are an artist.
